2025 Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge Recap

The 25th anniversary of the Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge was truly an event to remember! This beloved New Year’s Day tradition brought together a massive crowd of participants and spectators who braved the cold to start the year with a splash—literally.

From children to grandparents, plungers of all ages dashed into the cold Atlantic Ocean, their laughter and cheers echoing across the beach. For some, it was their first time taking the plunge; for others, it was another year in a long-standing tradition. Regardless of experience, everyone agreed: it was an exhilarating way to kick off 2025.

But the day wasn’t just about the plunge. There was something for everyone, both in and out of the water. A lively costume contest showcased some truly imaginative outfits, from polar bears to superheroes, adding a playful twist to the day. Warm coffee was available to keep spectators cozy while they cheered on the plungers. And for those wanting a keepsake, plenty of polar bear plunge gear was available to commemorate the event.

The energy on the beach at 16th and 17th Streets was contagious. Families, friends, and neighbors came together to celebrate not only the start of a new year but also the incredible impact this event has had over the years. The Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge is more than just a tradition; it’s a community-driven fundraiser that has raised over $1 million for the Fisher House Foundation, an organization that provides free lodging to military and veteran families near VA and military medical centers.

A History of Community and Giving Back

The Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge began as a simple dare between friends 25 years ago. What started with just a handful of brave souls has grown into one of the Jersey Shore’s most anticipated events. Thanks to the dedication of organizers like Tricia Cosgrove and the Brigantine Polar Bears team, this plunge has become a symbol of unity, fun, and philanthropy.

Why We Plunge

At its core, the Polar Bear Plunge isn’t just about diving into cold waters—it’s about making a difference. The funds raised over the past 25 years have supported countless military families through the Fisher House Foundation, ensuring they have a home away from home during challenging times. Each plunge is a reminder of the strength and generosity of the Brigantine community.
