Brigantine's Dolphin Tank Empowers Young Entrepreneurs

Welcome to Brigantine Living, where we bring you the latest and most exciting updates from our vibrant community. Today, we're thrilled to share a unique initiative that nurtures young entrepreneurs in our area—the Dolphin Tank at the Brigantine Farmers Market. Inspired by the popular TV show Shark Tank, the Dolphin Tank aims to provide a platform for young innovators to showcase their talents and businesses.

Introducing the Dolphin Tank

We recently visited the Brigantine Community School to learn more about this initiative. Unlike the Shark Tank, where businesses compete for investments, the Dolphin Tank is a nurturing environment for children aged 8 to 19 to present their products, services, or charities at the Farmers Market. The idea was sparked by the Fisher girls, whose mother suggested allowing young people to sell their creations at the market.

How It Works

Young entrepreneurs interested in participating can submit an application to be considered for a tent at the market. Applications can be obtained by emailing BrigantineFarmersMarket@gmail.com or check your Class Dojo notifications from Brigantine Community School's Superintendent Glenn Roberts.

Application Deadline and Kickoff Date

Applications will be accepted until June 20th, with the program officially starting on July 13th. The committee will review applications and notify the selected participants. This process is designed to be inclusive and encouraging, so young entrepreneurs should feel confident in applying.

What Participants Need

The Farmers Market will provide the tents, tables, and chairs. Young entrepreneurs only need to bring their goods, flyers, information, cash boxes, and decorations. A pro tip: since the Farmers Market can be windy, bring weights for papers and consider laying lightweight items flat. Additionally, the vendors are more than willing to offer advice and share display items if needed.

Giving Back to the Community

Participants will donate 10% of their earnings to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, teaching them the importance of giving back to the community.

Meet the Makers:

We had the pleasure of meeting some of the first participants in the Dolphin Tank program..

Sierra and Sun, Salt, and Sea Jewelry

Sierra, a seventh grader at Brigantine Community School, created Sun, Salt, and Sea Jewelry. She makes beautiful necklaces using different stones and seashells. Prices start at $8, and while she won’t be taking custom orders, her unique pieces are sure to be a hit at the market.

Isabelle, Kaye, and Their Clay Jewelry

Sierra's younger sisters, Isabelle and Kaye, are also part of the Dolphin Tank. They create clay jewelry bracelets, which take about half an hour to make. They offer a range of colorful designs, with prices starting at $6. These dedicated young entrepreneurs are looking forward to showcasing their creations and hope to make $1,000 on their first weekend.

Support Our Young Entrepreneurs

Visit the Brigantine Farmers Market to support these budding entrepreneurs and help them achieve their goals. The Dolphin Tank is more than just a business opportunity; it’s a chance for our community’s youth to learn valuable skills, gain confidence, and contribute to a worthy cause.

Stay tuned for more updates from Brigantine Living, and don’t forget to mark your calendars for July 13th. Let’s make this summer one to remember by supporting our young makers!
