Building and Renovating Homes at the Jersey Shore: Expert Tips with Scott Nehring of Holliday Architects
If you're considering building or renovating a home at the Jersey Shore, you're in the right place. Today, we'll cover everything you need to know about working with an architect for your dream coastal home.
Choosing the Right Architect
Finding the right architect is crucial. Here are some key points Scott emphasizes:
Review Their Portfolio: Ensure you like their work and that it matches your style.
Research Local Prominence: Look into their reputation and experience in the Jersey Shore area.
Local Expertise: Hiring a local architect means they have strong relationships with the town's building and planning departments.
Benefits of a Local Architect
Scott explains the perks of hiring a local firm:
Regulatory Know-How: Local architects are familiar with local building codes and regulations, ensuring smoother approval processes.
On-Site Supervision: Especially for shore homes, a local architect can regularly check on the progress, ensuring everything adheres to the plan.
Services Offered by Holliday Architects
Holliday Architects provides a wide range of services:
Residential and Commercial Projects: From small renovations to complete new builds.
Specific Renovations: Kitchens, bathrooms, decks, and even garages.
Comprehensive Design: Whether it's a new design or a structural renovation, they handle it all.
When Do You Need an Architect?
Not every project requires an architect. Scott advises:
Simple Renovations: For minor updates like a kitchen remodel, you might only need a builder.
Major Changes: For structural renovations, like adding a master bedroom or reconfiguring the layout, an architect is essential.
The Renovation and Building Process
Scott outlines the typical process:
Initial Meeting: For renovations, they visit the home; for new builds, they visit the lot or meet at the office.
Wish List: Discuss what you want to achieve.
Design Phase: Create renderings and floor plans to visualize the project.
Feasibility Check: Ensure the desired changes are possible within the existing structure.
